Sports Betting Faces the Biggest Crackdown

Under the ORACLE Act, most sports-related event contracts would be banned in New York. That includes wagers on the outcome of individual games, such as regular-season NFL matchups, as well as “prop bets” focused on specific moments or players during a game.
Some limited sports markets would remain legal. For example, users could still bet on season-long outcomes like the winner of the Super Bowl. Lawmakers argue this distinction reduces the resemblance to traditional gambling while preserving higher-level forecasting markets.
