Fake Coinbase Support Calls Are Stealing Millions—and They Sound Legit
-

A sophisticated impersonation campaign posing as Coinbase support has been linked to roughly $2 million in stolen crypto, according to onchain investigator ZachXBT. The scam relies on polished phone calls or messages that create urgency, warning users of suspicious activity and pushing them to act immediately to “secure” their funds.
What makes these scams dangerous isn’t technical hacking—it’s social engineering. The callers sound calm, authoritative, and helpful, which can cause even experienced users to move too quickly. Coinbase has reiterated that its real support team will never ask for passwords, two-factor authentication codes, or request that users transfer funds to a “safe” address.
