Governments Push Back as Grok Deepfake Scandal Expands
-

France and Malaysia have joined India in condemning Grok, the AI chatbot developed by xAI, after reports that it generated sexualized deepfake images of women and minors. The controversy has intensified global scrutiny of generative AI tools embedded in large social platforms.
Grok, which operates directly on X, issued a public apology acknowledging that it produced an AI-generated image of two girls estimated to be between 12 and 16 years old in sexualized attire. The company said the incident violated ethical standards and potentially US laws, prompting an internal review of safeguards.
