Bitcoin ATMs Face a Regulatory Reckoning in the US
-

The US network of Bitcoin ATMs is coming under intense regulatory scrutiny as federal data increasingly links the machines to large-scale financial fraud. Americans reportedly lost more than $333 million in 2025 through scams routed via crypto kiosks, prompting regulators to reassess the role of the country’s roughly 31,000 machines.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, more than 12,000 complaints tied to Bitcoin ATMs were recorded between January and November 2025. Regulators are now reframing the kiosk network as a systemic risk rather than a simple consumer awareness problem.
