Distributed Block Building Is Ethereum’s Long-Term Goal
-

Looking beyond near-term scaling improvements, Buterin outlined a vision for “distributed block building,” where no single entity constructs an entire block of transactions. By separating transaction proposers from block builders and distributing authority, Ethereum aims to reduce censorship risk and prevent regional concentration of power.
In this model, blocks would never be fully assembled in one place, making the network more resilient and globally balanced. While Buterin acknowledged that this goal is not urgent, he described it as a long-term ideal worth pursuing—especially as Ethereum faces mounting competition from faster, lower-cost blockchains pushing the limits of decentralization.
