A fraudulent email posing as official communication from MetaMask may have played a key role in a recent wave of crypto wallet drains across EVM chains. Cybersecurity researcher Vladimir S. pointed to evidence shared by a pseudonymous X user, suggesting victims may have unknowingly approved malicious transactions after interacting with the spoofed message.

Experts describe the campaign as a “wide-net” attack, designed to compromise as many wallets as possible rather than targeting high-value accounts. The incident reinforces the importance of verifying email senders, avoiding unsolicited links, and regularly reviewing wallet permissions—basic security steps that remain critical as phishing tactics become increasingly convincing.
