When a Used Handheld Costs More Than a Switch
-

The resale market for the 3DS has reached eye-opening levels. Refurbished New Nintendo 3DS XL systems are now listed near $379, with limited-edition shells tied to Pokémon, Zelda, and Monster Hunter pushing prices even higher.
For comparison, Nintendo raised the base Switch’s MSRP to $340 in 2025 due to tariffs, meaning some 3DS models now cost more than Nintendo’s current mainstream console. While the Switch 2 still sits well above both at $450, the pricing gap highlights how legacy hardware can outgrow its original market value.
