Tether Quietly Becomes a Bitcoin Powerhouse
-

Tether closed out 2025 by purchasing 8,888 Bitcoin on New Year’s Eve, pushing its disclosed holdings to more than 96,000 BTC. The move places Tether among the largest Bitcoin holders globally, ranking behind major custodial giants like Binance and Robinhood, and making it one of the biggest private corporate treasuries in crypto.
This purchase fits Tether’s now well-established pattern of allocating up to 15% of quarterly profits into Bitcoin. While often overshadowed by debates around stablecoins, the strategy signals that Tether is increasingly positioning itself as a long-term hard-asset holder rather than just a payments intermediary.
