Apple’s AI Leader Walks Away Amid Siri Delays 🍏🤖
-
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Walker, a senior director in Apple’s AI division and key figure behind Siri and a planned AI-powered search service (launch target: 2026), will leave the company in October 2025.
Walker previously reported to AI chief John Giannandrea before oversight shifted to software VP Craig Federighi. He acknowledged ongoing Siri upgrade delays, with Gurman noting a fully revamped, ChatGPT-level Siri isn’t expected until 2027 at best.
Apple launched its Apple Intelligence system in June 2024, but many features faced repeated delays and accuracy issues. The company has since reshuffled its AI team and explored partnerships with OpenAI, Anthropic, and others, while also holding talks with Perplexity, Thinking Machines Lab, and Mistral AI. Bloomberg sources add that Apple has even discussed integrating Google’s Gemini into Siri.
