Gmail Address Changes Would Preserve Old Emails and Logins

If Google follows through on the update, changing your Gmail address may no longer require starting from scratch.

Users who switch addresses will retain access to all existing emails, files, and Google services. The old Gmail address would remain active as an alias, ensuring messages sent to it still arrive normally.

Notably, Google’s English-language support page has not yet been updated and still claims Gmail addresses typically can’t be changed — suggesting the feature is still in early rollout or testing.
