Security analysts suggest the exploit may involve insider activity. The attacker submitted a malicious extension version on the official website and demonstrated deep familiarity with Trust Wallet’s source code.
Yu Xian, co-founder of SlowMist, reported the attacker prepared the exploit starting Dec. 8, implanted a backdoor on Dec. 22, and began stealing funds on Christmas Day, collecting users’ personal information in the process.
