Stablecoin transaction volume. Source: VISASouth Korea’s major payments processor BC Card has completed a pilot project allowing foreign users to pay local merchants using stablecoins. The test converted stablecoins held in overseas wallets into digital prepaid cards, enabling payments at Korean merchants connected to BC Card’s network.
The pilot, conducted with Wavebridge, Aaron Group, and Global Money Express, is part of BC Card’s longer-term push to build a stablecoin payment infrastructure. The company said the initiative reflects evolving regulatory discussions around stablecoins in South Korea rather than a one-off experiment.
BC Card processes more than 20% of South Korea’s card transactions and supports around 3.4 million domestic merchants, highlighting the potential scale of stablecoin-based payments if regulations align.

Interesting pilot, but I’m guessing it’s more about testing regs than me actually using crypto for shopping anytime soon
