Rivian’s AI Assistant Isn’t Just a Chatbot — It’s Wired Into the Entire Vehicle
-

Unlike the simple infotainment chatbots popping up across the auto industry, Rivian says its upcoming AI assistant is designed to interface with every major vehicle control system. According to software chief Wassym Bensaid, Rivian started by building a model-agnostic architecture, then realized it needed to create the software layers that coordinate workflows and resolve control conflicts.
The result is what Bensaid calls an “agentic framework” — effectively an in-vehicle operating layer built to work with different AI models. This approach aligns with Rivian’s broader 2024 overhaul of the R1T and R1S platforms, including new electrical architecture, sensor stacks, and UI design. -
Integrated assistants will redefine the driving experience.
