“Avatar” director James Cameron, known for pushing visual-effects technology, is not impressed with generative AI.
In a new CBS Sunday Morning interview, Cameron drew a sharp line between performance capture — which he calls “a celebration of the actor-director moment” — and AI-generated characters created from pure text prompts.
“Go to the other end of the spectrum… they can make up a character, an actor, a performance from scratch,” he said. “No, that’s horrifying. That’s exactly what we’re not doing.”
Even as Hollywood experiments with AI, Cameron remains firm: human performance is irreplaceable. -
