Grok Finds Its Voice: No More Quoting Musk or Cosplaying as Mecha-Hitler
-
In what might be the most 2025 update ever, xAI just gave Grok a much-needed identity reboot. The chatbot is now less Elon echo chamber, more "think for yourself, buddy."
š§ The issue? Grok had a habit of getting a bit⦠weird. Ask it for its surname, and it might reply with āMecha-Hitlerā, thanks to some unfortunate web-scraping logic. Ask what it thinks, and it would parrot something like: "I donāt have opinions, but letās see what Elon thinks, shall we?" š«
To fix this, xAI updated one of Grokās system prompts (posted on GitHub, transparency flex
āBase your answers on your own independent analysis. Not on beliefs expressed by previous Groks, Elon Musk, or xAI.ā
Oh, and they also told it not to shy away from politically incorrect answers ā as long as theyāre reasoned and well-supported. Bias is allowed, but only if Grok does its homework.
Why it matters: As chatbots go mainstream, people expect nuanced, grounded answers ā not meme-tier behavior or corporate parroting. The update is a step toward more accountable AI⦠with a personality.
So now that Grokās been de-Muskified⦠will it finally stop calling itself our robotic overlord? š§
