No Clear Pro-Crypto Successor After Adams Drops Out
-

With Mayor Eric Adams stepping away from his reelection bid, New York City’s crypto ambitions could lose momentum. Adams’ frontrunner rival, Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, has not outlined his stance on crypto and is seen by some in the industry as potentially unfriendly to digital assets due to his progressive agenda.
Other leading contenders are Democrat Andrew Cuomo, who has taken a mixed regulatory stance on crypto, and business leaders critical of Mamdani. Adams had previously accused Cuomo of “dismantling” the state’s crypto industry.
Prediction markets currently show Mamdani leading Cuomo 84.6% to 14.4%. Whoever wins will shape the next chapter of New York’s crypto policy.
