Critics Warn EU Chat Control Could Push Users to Web3
-

Crypto advocates warn that the EU’s Chat Control proposal could drive users toward decentralized Web3 platforms designed for privacy.
Hans Rempel, CEO of Diode, cited Web3’s “not your keys, not your data” ethos as appealing to those disillusioned by centralized systems. Elisenda Fabrega of Brickken added that the law could fragment the EU digital market and violate Articles 7 and 8 of the EU Charter, which protect private communications and personal data.
Both stressed that government backdoor access increases cybersecurity risks, especially given past high-profile data breaches.
