Spekter Games Emerges with $5M Backing and Telegram-Based Roguelite
-
U.S.-based Web3 studio Spekter Games has officially come out of stealth mode, announcing a $5 million pre-seed raise backed by a16z (via its Speedrun program), LVP, BRV Capital, and Accelerator Ventures.Founded by Taehoon Kim, former CEO of game developer nWay, the studio aims to fuse rich gameplay with subtle Web3 mechanics to elevate engagement in mobile and social games. Kim left nWay in 2024 after its acquisition by Animoca Brands.
Spekter’s debut title is a roguelite called Spekter Agency, currently in testing on Telegram, one of the new frontiers for gaming thanks to its growing status as a “super app.” A second game is also in development, though details are still under wraps.
While Telegram is the initial launchpad, Spekter also plans to release its titles on traditional app stores, targeting both crypto-native and mainstream audiences.
“We see a real chance to evolve the early tap-to-earn model on Telegram by introducing deeper mechanics that appeal to real gamers,” said Robin Guo of a16z. “We're excited to support TK and his experienced team as they explore the future of gaming on chat-based platforms.”
Kim echoed that vision: “We’re designing games that are genuinely fun — where the gameplay comes first. Web3 tools can absolutely boost retention and virality, but they need to stay behind the curtain. We’re proving it’s possible to bring Web3 to the mainstream without sacrificing the core experience.”
