Commonwealth Bank of Australia CEO Matt Comyn says artificial intelligence will fundamentally reshape the workforce, warning that pretending AI will not replace or transform jobs only leaves workers unprepared.

In a recent opinion piece, Comyn said AI-driven restructuring is already beginning inside large organizations, including banks, where some teams may become smaller while other employees are expected to take on more advanced responsibilities earlier in their careers.

He emphasized that AI will not simply eliminate jobs entirely, but will also:
    • Automate portions of existing work
    • Change skill requirements
    • Accelerate productivity expectations
    • Create entirely new career categories

According to Comyn, the biggest uncertainty is not whether work will change — but how quickly.

AI won’t replace everyone, but people using AI probably will.

The scary part isn’t AI, it’s how fast companies can adopt it.

Smaller teams doing more work feels inevitable.

AI skills might soon be as basic as knowing how to use a computer.

Humans + AI still seems stronger than AI alone.
