The crypto community is searching for answers after an unknown entity permanently burned 107 Bitcoin worth roughly $8.5 million. The funds were sent to Bitcoin’s well-known "11111" burn address, where they can never be spent again.

Because the coins had been sitting dormant for over a decade, the transaction triggered widespread speculation. Some analysts suggested tax-loss harvesting or compliance-related reasons, while others floated more unusual possibilities, including a mistaken transfer by an AI system or an exchange storage error.

The burn also highlights Bitcoin’s scarcity mechanics. Although Bitcoin does not automatically reduce supply like some other cryptocurrencies, coins sent to burn addresses are effectively removed forever. The latest transaction pushes the total amount of Bitcoin sent to this particular burn address to more than 800 BTC, valued at nearly $60 million today.
