AWS Is Rebuilding Cloud Infrastructure for the Age of AI Agents
-

Amazon Web Services has unveiled a new version of OpenSearch Serverless designed specifically for AI agents, signaling a major shift in how cloud infrastructure is evolving. Unlike traditional internet traffic generated by people, AI agents can launch thousands of requests across databases, APIs, and applications in seconds before disappearing just as quickly. To handle those unpredictable workloads, AWS redesigned its system to instantly scale computing power up during activity spikes and scale it back down to zero when idle. The approach allows companies to avoid paying for unused infrastructure while supporting the growing demand created by autonomous AI systems.
The launch reflects a broader industry trend as cloud providers race to adapt for machine-generated traffic. As AI agents become more common across enterprise software, search tools, and automation platforms, infrastructure originally built for human users is increasingly being reengineered around AI-first workloads.
