Spotify Is Turning Magazine Articles Into Audiobooks

Spotify is expanding deeper into long-form audio by introducing narrated magazine articles directly inside its app. The new feature gives Premium subscribers access to more than 650 narrated articles from major publications including Rolling Stone, Wired, Vogue, Variety, The Atlantic, Billboard, and Pitchfork as part of their monthly audiobook listening hours.

The company says the narrated articles will use a combination of human narration and AI-generated voices, with AI sections clearly labeled for users. Free-tier listeners will also be able to purchase individual articles separately for $1.99 each. Spotify believes shorter narrated articles could help introduce users to longer audio formats and eventually drive more engagement with audiobooks.

The launch is part of Spotify’s broader push to become a complete audio platform beyond music streaming. In recent months, the company has aggressively expanded into AI-powered audio features, including AI-generated podcasts, audiobook creation tools for authors, AI remix support, and new forms of spoken-word content designed to increase user listening time across the platform.
