DuckDuckGo’s AI-Free Search Option Is Suddenly Gaining Momentum
-

As Google pushes deeper into AI-powered search experiences, DuckDuckGo is positioning itself as an alternative for users who want more control and privacy online. The company says traffic to its AI-free search page, noai.duckduckgo.com, has surged following Google’s recent Search overhaul announcement at I/O 2026.According to DuckDuckGo, visits to the AI-free page increased by an average of 22.7% week-over-week, peaking at 27.7% on May 24. The page disables AI-assisted answers and AI-generated images by default, appealing to users who prefer traditional search results instead of AI-generated summaries.
Interestingly, DuckDuckGo is not anti-AI entirely. The company also offers its own private AI platform called Duck.ai, which gives users access to models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Mistral while stripping IP addresses, deleting conversations within 30 days, and preventing chats from being used for AI training. DuckDuckGo says the goal is not to eliminate AI completely, but to give users more choice over how they interact with it.

the internet reached a point where “ai free search” is now a premium user preference instead of a default setting
