A New Nintendo Direct Is Expected by Mid-June and Switch 2 Owners Are Ready for Answers
-

According to Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, a new Nintendo Direct presentation is expected to take place by mid-June, likely around the same timeframe as Summer Game Fest which kicks off on June 5. Grubb noted he does not have an exact date and was unable to confirm whether it will be a general Nintendo Direct or a Partner Showcase, though he is leaning toward a full Direct given its proximity to other major industry events. Nintendo has a well-established pattern of using June presentations to lay out its second-half roadmap, with the June 2023 Direct providing the first look at Super Mario Bros. Wonder as a notable recent example. With a Switch 2 price increase coming in September, Nintendo has a strong incentive to fill the second half of 2026 with compelling software announcements that justify the higher cost to consumers sitting on the fence about upgrading.
The timing is particularly important because Switch 2's release schedule beyond July is currently a near-complete mystery. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox, and Splatoon Raiders are all confirmed between May and July, but nothing has been announced beyond that window beyond Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave arriving sometime this year and rumors of a Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake targeting the holiday season. Fans are also eager for news on the future of major franchises like Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, both of which have yet to receive announced successors on Switch 2. Mario Kart World DLC rumors have been circulating without confirmation. A mid-June Nintendo Direct that addresses even a portion of these open questions would give Switch 2 owners a much clearer picture of what they are investing in for the rest of the year and into 2027.
