Amazon's Alexa+ Can Now Generate a Custom Podcast Episode on Any Topic in Minutes

Amazon has launched a new feature called Alexa Podcasts, rolling out to US customers this week as part of its Alexa+ subscription. The feature allows users to request a podcast episode on any topic simply by asking, with no scripts, documents, or preparation required. Alexa+ handles the research, generates an overview of what the episode will cover, and gives users the opportunity to adjust the length, tone, and focus before finalizing. Once ready, the episode is narrated using AI-generated host voices and delivered as a notification through Echo Show devices and the Alexa app, where it can be replayed later. The launch is part of Amazon's broader effort to transform Alexa+ from a voice assistant that answers questions into something closer to a personalized AI content creator that generates original material on demand.
The feature is backed by real-time information access through partnerships with more than a dozen major news organizations including the Associated Press, Reuters, The Washington Post, Time, and Politico, alongside over 200 local US newspapers, which Amazon says improves the accuracy and reliability of generated content.That context matters because AI-generated audio covering news or complex topics raises genuine concerns about accuracy and the reliability of information delivered in a format many listeners tend to trust. The launch is also likely to reignite broader debates around AI-generated voices, automated content creation, and what it means for traditional podcast creators and journalists as the tools to produce broadcast-quality audio become available to anyone with an Alexa subscription. Amazon says it is already exploring additional personalized audio formats beyond podcasts, including custom news briefings and content generated from users' own documents.
