Circle Stock Jumped 16% Monday and Is Now Up 66% in 2026. Here Is What Drove It

Circle shares surged nearly 16% on Monday to close at $131.76, their highest level since mid-March, extending a 2026 rally that has now pushed the stablecoin issuer's stock up 66% year to date and given it a market capitalization of approximately $35 billion. The move was driven by a combination of a strong first-quarter earnings report and the disclosure of a $222 million presale of Circle's ARC token to a marquee investor group. On the earnings side, Circle reported first-quarter revenue of $694 million, up 20% year over year, with adjusted earnings rising 24% to $151 million. Its USDC stablecoin reached $77 billion in circulation at the end of Q1, representing 28% growth from a year earlier — a figure that keeps USDC firmly in second place behind Tether's USDt at $189 billion but demonstrates that Circle is growing its stablecoin market share at a meaningful pace. The ARC token presale raised $222 million at a $3 billion project valuation, with investors including a16z Crypto and a consortium featuring BlackRock, Apollo Global Management, and ARK Invest — a lineup that gives the token's launch institutional credibility that most new blockchain projects never achieve.Monday's close at $131.76 pushed Circle shares closer to the Wall Street consensus price target of $138.50 tracked by TipRanks, though the most bullish analysts see significantly more upside from here. Peter Christiansen of Citigroup carries a 12-month price target of $243, and Gautam Chhugani of Bernstein has set a target of $190. Both analysts rate the stock a buy, alongside 10 others tracked by TipRanks.

Andrew Jeffrey of William Blair acknowledged that Circle shares will likely remain volatile in the near term given the stock's sensitivity to stablecoin regulatory developments and broader crypto market conditions, but described the company as having "a significant stablecoin commerce advantage" with multiple positive catalysts ahead. Dan Dolev of Mizuho highlighted that Circle is continuing to demonstrate new use cases for stablecoins beyond crypto trading, a broadening of the technology's role that supports a larger long-term valuation case than a pure crypto trading infrastructure company would merit.
