A California man known online as GothFerrari has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to participate in a racketeering-influenced and corrupt organization — his role in a sophisticated crypto theft ring that drained more than $250 million from victims between late 2023 and early 2025. Marlon Ferro, 20, of Santa Ana, also faces $2.5 million in restitution and three years of supervised release following his arrest in May 2025, when authorities found him in possession of two firearms. The criminal enterprise operated across California, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and overseas, with members specializing in distinct roles including database hacking, target identification, fraudulent phone calls, and money laundering. When online social engineering tactics failed to extract funds from a victim, the ring turned to Ferro as what prosecutors described as its "instrument of last resort" — dispatching him to physically break into victims' homes and steal hardware wallets directly. "When members of the organization could not steal cryptocurrency through deception, they turned to Ferro to break into homes and steal hardware wallets outright," US Attorney Pirro said at sentencing.

The burglaries Ferro carried out were methodical and coordinated with the broader criminal network in real time. In February 2024, he broke into a home in Winnsboro, Texas and stole a hardware wallet containing approximately 100 Bitcoin, worth more than $5 million at the time. That July, he traveled to New Mexico, planted a hidden cell phone to surveil a residence, and waited for co-conspirators monitoring the victim's iCloud account to signal the home was empty before smashing a window with a brick to gain entry. The level of operational coordination between the digital and physical arms of the operation — using cloud account tracking to time a physical burglary — represents one of the more alarming examples of how crypto theft rings have evolved beyond pure online fraud into hybrid crimes with real-world violence and intrusion at their core.

Ring's role specialization mirrors professional organized crime, not opportunistic retail crypto theft.
