Bitcoin Is on Track for Its Best April in Five Years — Just 0.5% Away From the Record
-

Bitcoin is heading into the final week of April 2026 with a 13.71% monthly gain, putting it within half a percentage point of the strongest April performance for the asset since 2020. To surpass April 2025's return of 14.08% and claim the title of Bitcoin's best April in five years, BTC needs to add just 0.5% before the monthly close on April 30. The current figure already sits above both the historical average April gain of 13.11% and the median return of 10.49%, making 2026 a standout month regardless of how the final days play out.
The recovery is particularly striking given how the year started. Bitcoin lost 10.17% in January and another 14.94% in February before a modest 1.81% gain in March left the asset deep in negative territory for the year. April's rebound has now reversed roughly half of those year-to-date losses, driven by improving ETF inflows and a softer US dollar print. The previous five Aprils were a mixed bag — gains of 34.26% in 2020 and 14.08% in 2025 were offset by steep losses in 2024, 2022, and 2021 — making the current run one of the more consistent positive Aprils in recent memory heading into the close. -
