Anthropic Changes Pricing for Claude Code Third-Party Usage

Anthropic has introduced a major change to how its Claude Code subscriptions work with third-party tools. Starting April 4, users can no longer use their standard subscription limits with external integrations like OpenClaw.

Instead, usage through third-party “harnesses” will now be billed separately under a pay-as-you-go model. The company confirmed that this policy will extend beyond OpenClaw to all similar tools in the near future.

Anthropic stated that the decision was driven by scaling challenges, noting that existing subscription plans were not designed for the higher and more complex usage patterns generated by external integrations.
