FBI Warns of Tron-Based Scam Impersonating Agency to Steal User Data
-

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a warning about a crypto scam operating on the Tron blockchain that impersonates the agency to trick users into revealing sensitive information. According to the FBI, scammers are sending tokens containing messages that falsely claim a user’s wallet is “under investigation,” urging them to complete a fake anti-money laundering verification to avoid asset restrictions.
The tactic mirrors common phishing strategies that rely on urgency and fear to manipulate victims. The FBI reported that crypto-related scams generated $9.3 billion in losses in 2024, based on over 140,000 complaints—a sharp 66% increase year-over-year. Users are being advised to avoid interacting with such tokens and never share personal data through suspicious links.
