Investors Are Moving Beyond AI “Wrapper” Startups
-

Many artificial intelligence startup ideas today are built as simple “wrappers” around existing AI models. But as major AI platforms add more native features, investors are becoming cautious about backing startups that could quickly become obsolete.
During the selection process for the Google and Accel AI accelerator program in India, roughly 70% of the 4,000+ applications were rejected because they only layered basic AI features—such as chatbots—on top of existing products without rethinking workflows.
Investors are now prioritizing startups that use AI to fundamentally reshape industries, rather than simply integrating existing tools into traditional software.
