Kalshi Plans Appeal as Prediction Market Regulations Remain Unclear
-

Prediction markets platform Kalshi says it will appeal a federal court decision in Ohio that denied its attempt to stop state regulators from enforcing sports betting laws against the company. The platform argued that its event-based contracts should be regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, but the court rejected that claim.
The ruling arrives as federal regulators consider broader guidance on prediction markets. Michael Selig, the CFTC chair, recently said the agency plans to release new regulatory direction “in the very near future.” With lawsuits already emerging in several states, the outcome could shape how prediction markets operate across the United States.
