Hugo Martin Says Doom: The Dark Ages DLC Feels “Like a Sequel”
-

Fans of Doom: The Dark Ages have a big reason to stay hyped. Game director Hugo Martin recently teased that the upcoming DLC is so ambitious it feels “basically like a sequel.” Speaking during a Slayers Club Live broadcast, Martin revealed that internal playtests completely changed how he approached combat compared to the base game, calling the experience “nothing like” what players have already seen. While he confirmed that an official teaser trailer is still some time away, he emphasized that the expansion is “huge.”
The base game, developed by id Software, became the studio’s biggest launch ever, hitting 3 million players in its first week and earning “Innovation in Accessibility” at The Game Awards 2025. With post-launch additions like the Ripatorium endless arena mode already expanding the experience, expectations for this DLC are sky-high — and Martin’s comments suggest it may significantly evolve the formula once again.
