Ethereum to Ship Native Account Abstraction in Hegota Upgrade, Says Vitalik Buterin
-

Ethereum is set to roll out native account abstraction within a year as part of the upcoming Hegota upgrade, according to co-founder Vitalik Buterin. Buterin said the long-discussed feature — first envisioned in 2016 — is now nearing deployment thanks to EIP-8141, an omnibus proposal designed to resolve the remaining technical challenges around smart accounts.
Account abstraction allows transactions to function as flexible “frames” rather than single operations, enabling advanced features such as multi-signature validation, programmable authorization, and customizable gas payment logic. Instead of rigid externally owned accounts, users will gain smart account functionality directly at the protocol level — a shift expected to streamline wallet design and unlock more powerful onchain interactions across the ecosystem.
