Google Launches Nano Banana 2 as Default Image Model in Gemini
-

Google has unveiled Nano Banana 2, the latest version of its image generation model, officially known as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image. The upgraded model delivers more realistic visuals while operating faster than its predecessor, and it is now the default image generator across all modes — Fast, Thinking, and Pro — inside the Gemini app. It also powers image generation in Google’s Flow video editing tool and appears in Google Search results via Lens and AI Mode across 141 countries.
Building on the momentum of the original Nano Banana launch in August 2025, the new version supports image resolutions from 512px up to 4K in multiple aspect ratios. Google says Nano Banana 2 improves storytelling capabilities by maintaining character consistency for up to five characters and handling detailed workflows involving up to 14 objects. All generated images include a SynthID watermark for AI transparency and are compatible with C2PA Content Credentials standards, reinforcing authenticity and traceability across platforms.
