Respawn Nerfs Octane Again in Apex Legends Season 28
-

Respawn Entertainment has issued another nerf to Octane in Season 28 of Apex Legends, aiming to rein in the Legend’s dominance. Despite the Breach update launching on February 10 with reworks to Fuse and kit improvements for Catalyst and Bloodhound, Octane remained the most-picked character at 17.4%, according to Apex Legends Status data. His surge in popularity followed a powerful Season 27 rework that upgraded his Jump Pad and introduced Stim Surge, granting Fortified and enhanced survivability.
However, player feedback and internal data suggested the changes pushed Octane too far. After a January nerf to Swift Mend, Respawn followed up on February 23 by removing Fortified from Stim Surge and reducing the speed boost from Stim — though it still remains stronger than pre-Season 27 levels. Developers said his pick rate and win rate were still “unhealthy,” prompting action to tone down the “spikiest” parts of his kit.
