Canva Acquires Cavalry to Bring Motion Editing Into Affinity Suite
-

Canva has announced the acquisition of UK-based animation startup Cavalry, marking a major step toward expanding its professional creative ecosystem.
Cavalry specializes in 2D motion animation across advertising, marketing, gaming, and generative art. Canva plans to integrate Cavalry’s animation technology into Affinity, its professional creative editing suite acquired in 2024.
Affinity — which includes advanced tools for photo, vector, and layout editing — was revamped last year and made free for all users. Since then, it has surpassed five million downloads. With the addition of motion editing, Canva says it is closing a major gap in its offering and building what it calls a “full-stack Creative OS” for professional creatives.
The move positions Canva more directly against high-end creative software suites by adding deeper animation capabilities alongside its existing design tools.
