Next-Gen Xbox Pushed to 2027? What It Means for Microsoft and Call of Duty
-

Microsoft’s rumored next-generation Xbox console was initially targeted for late 2026, but supply chain issues — particularly an ongoing RAM and SSD shortage — have reportedly pushed the system’s launch to 2027 at the earliest.
The upcoming console, still officially unnamed, is expected to run on a custom AMD APU and lean heavily into deeper Windows 11 integration. Reports suggest expanded compatibility with PC storefronts such as Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, signaling Microsoft’s broader strategy to unify console and PC ecosystems.
For Activision, the delay complicates long-term marketing alignment. A synchronized launch between a new Xbox console and a flagship Call of Duty title would have provided a powerful competitive moment. Without that timing advantage, the publisher may need to explore alternative release strategies — potentially including standalone experiences like a dedicated Zombies title with multi-year support.
Microsoft has not officially confirmed a 2027 launch window, and timelines remain fluid. But if the hardware shift holds, both Xbox and Call of Duty could enter a new era defined by flexible releases, ecosystem expansion, and evolving competition across platforms.
