Crypto Scam Losses Surge as Social Engineering Attacks Intensify
-

The warning comes amid a sharp rise in crypto-related theft. According to blockchain security firm CertiK, $370.3 million was stolen through exploits and scams last month — the highest monthly total in 11 months and nearly four times January 2025’s figure.
One widely shared case involved a user known as “Ika,” who claimed his mid-six-figure crypto wallet was drained after interacting with a fraudulent Uniswap link that appeared in Google search results. CertiK reported that a single social engineering incident accounted for roughly $284 million of last month’s losses, highlighting how sophisticated phishing campaigns — rather than protocol failures — are driving the latest wave of crypto theft.
