Dutch Regulator Orders Polymarket to Halt Operations or Face $990K Fine
-

The Netherlands Gambling Authority has ordered Polymarket’s Dutch arm, Adventure One, to immediately cease offering prediction market services to residents — or risk fines of up to $990,000.According to regulators, the platform violated Dutch gambling law by offering unlicensed bets, including on local elections. Officials said prediction market contracts are not permitted in the Netherlands “under any circumstances,” even by licensed operators.
The move adds to mounting global scrutiny of prediction markets as regulators debate whether they qualify as gambling or financial products.
