Audit Reveals Broader Weaknesses in Seized Crypto Management
-

A nationwide review initiated by the National Police Agency uncovered that 22 Bitcoin submitted to authorities in November 2021 were no longer in custody at a Seoul police station. The funds had been voluntarily handed over during an investigation, but the case is now suspended after the assets were found missing during the audit.
The probe is currently being handled by the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency, which is examining how the transfer occurred and whether internal failures or external interference were involved. The situation has intensified scrutiny over institutional safeguards designed to protect seized digital assets from unauthorized movement.
