Sam Bankman-Fried Seeks New Trial in FTX Fraud Case
-

Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried has asked a federal court for a new trial, arguing that previously unavailable witness testimony could undermine the prosecution’s case that resulted in his 25-year prison sentence. The motion, filed in Manhattan federal court, challenges his 2023 conviction on seven criminal counts tied to the misuse of customer funds.
The request is separate from his formal appeal and faces a high legal hurdle, as new trial motions are rarely granted. The filing was submitted by his mother, retired Stanford law professor Barbara Fried, and is currently under review. Despite his conviction in one of the most significant fraud cases in crypto history, Bankman-Fried continues to maintain his innocence and is pursuing multiple legal avenues to contest the verdict.
