Two xAI Co-Founders Exit as Leadership Turnover Grows
-

xAI co-founder Yuhuai (Tony) Wu announced Monday night that he is leaving the company, saying it’s time for his “next chapter.” Less than 24 hours later, fellow co-founder Jimmy Ba also confirmed his departure, thanking Elon Musk and the team while signaling he would remain close as a friend of the company.
While both announcements were cordial, they add to a growing list of exits at Musk’s AI lab. Six of xAI’s 12 founding members have now left, with five departures occurring within the past year. Though startup turnover isn’t unusual — especially ahead of a potential IPO — the concentration of high-level exits raises questions about continuity at a pivotal moment for the company.
