Judge Dismisses Bancor’s Patent Lawsuit Against Uniswap
-

A New York federal judge has dismissed a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Bancor-affiliated entities against Uniswap, ruling that the patents in question claim abstract ideas and are not eligible for protection under US patent law. The court found that the patents were directed at the abstract concept of calculating crypto exchange rates — a “fundamental economic practice” — and therefore failed the Supreme Court’s two-step patent eligibility test.
While this is a procedural win for Uniswap, the dismissal was issued without prejudice, meaning Bancor’s affiliated entities have 21 days to amend their complaint. If they do not refile, the case will be dismissed permanently. Shortly after the decision, Uniswap founder Hayden Adams posted: “A lawyer just told me we won.”
