OpenAI Tests Ads — But Draws a Hard Line on Trust
-

OpenAI has officially begun testing ads in the U.S. — but only for users on its Free and Go ($8/month) tiers.Paid users across Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education plans won’t see ads at all. More importantly, OpenAI is trying to get ahead of the biggest fear: ads influencing AI answers.
The company says ads will be:
Clearly labeled and separated from responses
Not allowed to influence ChatGPT’s answers
Kept private from advertisers (no access to conversations)
Ads won’t appear for users under 18 or near sensitive topics like health, politics, or mental health. Users can also dismiss ads, see why they were shown one, and clear ad history at any time.
OpenAI’s message is clear: ads are meant to fund access, not compromise trust.

nice that they’re trying to separate ads from answers and protect privacy, still gonna be interesting to see how it plays out in practice
