Crypto Ransom Kidnapping Exposes a Growing Threat in France
-

French police have arrested six people — including a minor — in connection with the kidnapping of a magistrate and her mother, held for more than 30 hours in a garage as part of a crypto-linked ransom plot.
The attackers allegedly sent a photo of the hostages to the magistrate’s partner, a crypto entrepreneur, threatening mutilation if payment wasn’t made in cryptocurrency. No ransom was paid, and the victims managed to escape.
This case isn’t isolated. France has seen a sharp rise in crypto-related kidnappings, home invasions, and physical extortion attempts targeting investors, founders, and even their families. What was once considered a niche risk is now a mainstream security concern — extending far beyond online threats.
Crypto wealth is no longer just a digital risk. It’s increasingly a physical one.
