Ethereum activity surges as dusting attacks rise after Fusaka upgrade
-

Stablecoin-based “dusting” attacks now account for an estimated 11% of all Ethereum transactions and 26% of active addresses on an average day, according to new data from Coin Metrics. The rise follows Ethereum’s Fusaka upgrade, which lowered transaction costs and made onchain activity cheaper.
Ethereum is currently processing over 2 million transactions per day, peaking near 2.9 million in mid-January, alongside roughly 1.4 million daily active addresses — a 60% increase from prior averages.
While much of this growth reflects genuine usage, Coin Metrics notes that reduced fees have also made it easier for attackers to flood the network with tiny stablecoin transfers designed to seed wallets with misleading balances.

cheaper gas was always going to have this side effect. great for users, great for scammers too. can’t have nice things without someone abusing it.
