Big Tech Rallies Around AI Glasses as Meta Pushes Ahead
-

Meta isn’t alone in chasing AI-powered wearables, even if it currently leads the pack.
Google is expected to launch smart glasses this year following a $150 million partnership with Warby Parker, while Apple is reportedly shifting staff toward its own glasses project after scaling back Vision Pro plans. Snap also announced this week that it’s spinning its AR glasses, Specs, into a standalone subsidiary to sharpen focus.
Even OpenAI is exploring AI wearables, though likely in the form of pins or earbuds rather than glasses. For now, Meta has the most products on the market — including Oakley-branded smart glasses designed for workouts, one of the clearest use cases yet.
If AI glasses don’t become the next smartphone, they still look set to become a major new hardware category.
