Nevada Judge Temporarily Blocks Polymarket From Operating in the State
-

A Nevada state judge has issued a temporary restraining order forcing onchain prediction market Polymarket to halt operations for Nevada residents, dealing a blow to the industry’s argument that federal commodities law overrides state gambling rules.
The order, granted at the request of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, bars Polymarket operator Blockratize from offering event-based contracts in the state for 14 days while the case proceeds. A preliminary injunction hearing is scheduled for Feb. 11.
The court found that Polymarket’s sports and event contracts likely qualify as unlicensed wagering under Nevada law, not regulated financial products. The judge cited immediate and irreparable harm to the state’s ability to enforce betting integrity, age restrictions, and responsible gaming standards.
