ClawdBot, a self-hostable “always-on” AI agent popular with developers, gained rapid attention before being renamed Moltbot. Steinberger said operational missteps during the rename allowed crypto promoters to squat abandoned accounts and impersonate him.

According to Steinberger, scammers used the hijacked identities to solicit token-related activity and pressure him to “claim” deployment fees. He has repeatedly warned users that any project listing him as a token owner is fraudulent, saying the activity is actively harming the open-source project and confusing its community.
